ADV riding on Pan America on the Incredible Monongaheila Adventure Route ‘IMAR’ with friend Eric

Eric rolling on by me!
  1. I and my buddy rode the eastern sections of the IMAR !
We started just west of Monterey VA to Bluegrass, Lake Buffalo then north on John’s Run Rd up Rt14 past Laurel Fork Wilderness (by a small campground of same name). The weather was rainy but not worth donning rain gear at first and just a jacket later on.
We continued north on Ridge Rd through Wymer to Gladwin where we found a great free camping site on the Glady fork of the Cheat river!
After setting up our brand new dome tents we proceeded to find some wet firewood to make a fire. Let me tell you those fire starters they sell a Dick’s Sporting Goods with the red and the green string that you pull apart really work well and started our wet wood without a problem.
After breaking out some sandwiches that we have bought at Walmart we started consuming some beer and more potent adult beverages and proceeded to tell many lies and jokes!
Since it was Independence Day weekend our neighbors in the other sites had some great fireworks which they shot off and we enjoyed. The best fireworks of the night were the lightning bugs in the trees and over the river through the night!
Finally we stumbled into our tents to crash out for the night.
We were lulled to sleep by the music of the river tumbling over smooth river rocks.
The next morning we woke up amazingly refreshed with no real hangover surprisingly!
The weather was cloudy with some sprinkles so we broke down our tents and cleaned up the campsite.
Next we headed out on route 32 and Dolly Sods Road which is route 19, let me tell you that road is gravelly and very slippery and we were glad when we came down to route 28/55 on the pavement since I was only running 8020 Michelin Anakee Adventure tires half worn out.
We were low on fuel and did not see a fuel stop at Seneca rocks so we kept heading south until we got to Macksville Mart for fuel.
We pulled into Franklin for a great lunch at The Hollow restaurant and we do highly suggest you get the blackberry cobbler or the blackberry pie whichever one is available.
I had steamed shrimp which was excellent and Eric had beef tips which he said was very tasty.
Route 33 is a great road to take back home and we had hardly any traffic at all.
Our sincere thanks go to the TheinfamousDrBholmes who spent so much time putting these maps together and we most definitely will be heading back out on these routes again soon!
